Apr 29, 2026 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
There is a “color run” at JJ Pickle on Wednesday sponsored by our good friend, Anita Sigler. All the kids who achieved a special reading goal run around the track, and the adults throw some colored powder at them as they run around the track. The kids love it - however, I would warn you that the powder gets all over your clothes and shoes and is a pain to get out. You should wear your Rotary shirt, though. I suggest getting there early as you need to check in at the front desk. |

May 04, 2026 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
On Monday, May 4th, 2026 at 6:30 PM, we will hold a club meeting at Khon Thai Restaurant at 5800 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78756. Our speaker will be Ivan Milman. Carrying on the tradition established by Fred Bosse, Ivan does a quick presentation each week on "This Day In History". The single slide contains 3 events that happened on that day (for example, May 4th) and 4 to 5 birthdays, including pictures of the persons whose birthday is on that day. One of those presentations is attached to this event. It takes Ivan about 2 hours each week to do this, so he decided to try using AI (specifically ChatGPT) to automate the process. The results are somewhat surprising, and illustrate the gap between what we think AI can do and what it actually does. Ivan will present his findings in the format of a science fair project - similar to what was used by the school children at the GARSEF science fair in February.
Please show up early to network and hang out with us. We encourage you to invite family, friends, and colleagues to join us. We will buy a meal for our first time guests! About Ivan Milman
Ivan Milman is Past-President of the Rotary Club of Austin University Area. Ivan has been with the club since 2015. Before he retired, Ivan worked in the technology sector for 37 years, primarily working on software security and data management. Ivan has been granted over 25 US patents, and is a co-author of 2 books: Enterprise Master Data Management and Beyond Big Data. In March of 2026, Ivan completed the Post Graduate Program in Generative AI for Business Applications from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin.

May 14, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Pecan Springs Elementary was the only Texas school selected to create and perform a Disney classic with 3-5th graders. These kids and teachers have been practicing every day for three months for this event and will be wearing costums purchased by Rotary. They have reserved the first two rows for our Rotary members because they are proud of what they have done and want to share it with the people (Rotarians) who are always there to support them on their way to adulthood. 40 seats have been reserved for Rotarians. The tickets are free but you must notify Mary Reynolds by so she can give your tickets to you. Rotarians and their families are welcome - your kids and grandkids would love it too because the actors are all 3-5th graders. Our club has been a long time supporter of Pecan Springs (EAFK, Books4Me, Trunk or Treat and other programs) and it would be great to have our club show out for this. You can contact Mary at maryreynolds222@gmail.com - tickets are first come, first serve. |
